Individual Therapy

Taking the first step toward professional help can feel overwhelming, especially when dealing with deeply personal issues. My hope is that by sharing about how I work, I can take some of the mystery out of the process and make it feel a little more approachable for you.

My commitment is to show up as a real person, not a distant professional. This openness helps to create an environment where you can feel  safe enough to do the same.

While I have a foundational ways of working rooted in modalities such as person centred therapy and attachment theory, I strive to make the therapy fit the client rather than the client fit the therapy. This means that  the ways in which we work together will be determined by collaboratively exploring your needs and preferences.

Whatever brings you to therapy—be it anxiety, depression, trauma, addiction, grief or feeling stuck in your relationships, my aim is to help you foster a deeper understanding of yourself and guide you toward a greater sense of well-being.

In terms of understanding how psychotherapy can help, in spite of life's challenges, I find the buddhist concept of the "two arrows" to be a helpful metaphor.

Life inevitably brings hardships—like loss, illness, emotional and physical pain. - which represent the "first arrow." While these events may be beyond our control, we often experience a "second arrow" of suffering created by our own reactions, such as self-criticism, rumination or resistance. These reactions are frequently tied to unresolved experiences from our past. By exploring these automatic patterns, psychotherapy can help in developing healthier coping strategies, ultimately leading to a stronger sense of resilience and well-being.
